I have over a decade of experience in web development, having freelanced professionally and worked as a subcontractor for a smattering of various clients. I recently moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where I intend to push my web development career. Here are some things I do. Also, go add me on Linkedin while you’re at it!
Frontend and UI Development
I produce clean and valid HTML5 and CSS3 for any project, as well as legacy languages like XHTML for taking on modifications for older projects. Also a strong command over frameworks like Bootstrap for making sure your site is friendly for mobile devices and tablets. (Case in point: On a desktop? Resize your browser window right now to take a look how this site will look on a device with a smaller screen.)
I typically stay out of graphic design work these days, but my experience with Photoshop allows me to take any raw PSD file and turn it into a clean template for any project. This is especially handy when I’m also tasked with…
I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been handed a “coded” template to be used in a CMS, only for it to be completely unusable, or require several extra hours of modification in order to fit the CMS in question. Different platforms have their own subtle complexities, and one-size-fits-all is never quite the case. Sloppy development leads to things like extra bandwidth consumption or higher server load, and that’s never really good when you’re trying to reach your customers.
That aside, I specialize in development for ExpressionEngine, which I highly recommend for most clients starting a project out from scratch. For clients needing work done on an existing platform, I also work in Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla and Movable Type. I also have worked with community platforms such as Xenforo, vBulletin, IP.Board and Disqus, having served as a community leader and administrator in several high-traffic web forums. As for e-commerce platforms, I’ve helped deploy Magento projects, but also can utilize the PayPal API’s for custom projects. Which brings me to…
Custom PHP/MySQL and Server Administration
I’ve been working with PHP and MySQL for a long time now, and safe to say it’s where I’m most comfortable. Custom projects? Messy data migrations? I work best the more unique the job gets.
On top of that, I have several years of experience in managing web servers (CentOS and NGINX are my preferred go-to’s these days, but I’ve also managed Apache and cPanel/WHM machines) as well as working with cloud hosting providers. (Rackspace and Linode mainly, still figuring out Amazon). I can make sure the environment you’re running in is tweaked perfectly for the specific services your project requires.
Lately I’ve been dropping some of my custom ExpressionEngine components on my GitHub profile, so do check that out!
